A good robot vacuum can make a big difference in keeping allergens such pet hair and dust under control. But not all models are created equal.

There are a variety of options to choose from depending on whether you are looking for a pet-friendly vacuum or a robot to work with your other cleaner.

1. Eufy RoboVac Edge G30

The G30 Edge, the latest model from Eufy's budget range of robotic vacuum cleaners is the most recent model. It's a shiny black affair with rose-gold and blue accents that looks like an iPhone. The model is simpler to use than the previous models and has features like BoostIQ that automatically increases suction power for cleaner cleaning on all surfaces. It also uses intelligent navigation to prevent repeating the same areas repeatedly, which is an issue that is common when using bounce-navigation systems.

It does an excellent job of picking up pet hair and crumbs from hard floors, but lags behind the top models when it comes to collecting dust from carpet. In our tests the G30 Edge missed 74% of the flour on hard floors, and 26% on carpet which is a bit disappointing.

The G30 Edge is unique in its ability to map out your home using an electronic map. The Neato Botvac D-Shape a remarkably capable robot with an impressive list of features that are smart. It is able to clean floors with ease and climb up carpets with high piles effortlessly. The app comes with advanced features such as boundary lines, Proscenic X1 Robot Vacuum Cleaner: Powerful High-Mop remote access to the robot when it is in operation and a variety of other options.

This model is the most recent in a long-running series of Neato robots. It is unique because it has a "D shape when seen from above. This design offers several advantages, including better corner cleaning and a larger container of dust than other models. The D-shape also allows the robot to get under furniture more easily than robots with a circular design.

The D-Shape will briefly pause before starting a cleaning cycle to make use of spinning infrared light to scan and assess the area. In our tests, we discovered that the D-Shape sat under a four legged stool, and also underneath an electrical cord that was exposed. However it was able to to free itself each time.

3. Roomba i3+ EV

The Roomba i3+ EVO is a great option for pet owners. It works well on hard floors, and does an excellent job of removing dirt like pet hair rice, cereal and other small particles. The i3+ EVO's obstacle-avoiding capability isn't as robust as the other robots we tested and it repeatedably ran into objects in our tests, such as handbags, shoes, and pet toys before continuing its course. It also had trouble with coarse sea salt that it was able to blow around instead of picking up.

The i3+ EVO is loaded with features that make it well worth the extra money over other Roomba models. It has an automatic emptying bin as well as advanced control with an app. You can plan cleaning times, set custom routines, and even create zones that do not want the robot to be allowed to enter. Its intelligent scheduling can suggest additional cleaning during high allergy times and based on your regular routine. The system for navigation is not reliable and can cause vacuums to be erratic patterns, such as diagonals or zigzags rather than parallel to walls.

4. Shark AI Self-Empty, XL

However it's not as powerful much power as our top choices.

The Roborock S4 Max, however, is more durable, recharges much quicker than the Shark and offers a broader variety of automation capabilities and scheduling options, including support for "no-go zones". We'd still recommend the Shark If you're looking for something cheaper or should you prefer to use your mobile phone for control and monitoring rather than a remote that is specifically designed for it.

It also has an edge-sweeping tool that can remove hairs from walls and baseboards.

This robot is a great option if you're looking for an affordable model with some extra features. It was able navigate obstacles with ease during our tests and is controlled via an app or voice. It also supports scheduled cleaning and has a huge dust bin to catch mess before they get full. It can take it up to 166 mins to complete its work, but this is still faster than other robots that we have test.

The main feature of this robot is its front-facing camera that lets you monitor your home's cleanliness on live maps in the app. This is especially useful when you're trying to find a particular item, or if your kids have spilled glitter from their festive decorations all over your floor.
